THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL BEGIN HALF DAY SESSIONS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AMID ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS. ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WILL BEGIN SEPTEMBER 14 WHILE JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS WILL BEGAN SEPTEMBER 8. GARAPAN ELEMENTARY AND SAN VICENTE WILL BE ON DOUBLE SESSIONS, YOUNGER GRADES IN THE MORNING AND HIGHER GRADES IN THE AFTERNOON.
PLANES LONGER THAN 159 FEET ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO LAND AT THE FRANCISCO C. ADA SAIPAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. WHILE THE AIRPORT IS UP AND RUNNING, AIRPORT PERSONNEL ARE AWAITING A RESCUE FIRETRUCK TO BRING THE AIRPORT BACK UP AND RUNNING.
CONGRESSMAN GREG KILILI SABLAN IS ASKING FOR MORE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND AN INCREASE IN THE ELIGIBILITY LEVEL FOR FOOD STAMP RELIEF. SABLAN WROTE A LETTER TO FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICE ADMINISTRATOR AUDREY ROWE REQUESTING MORE HELP. THERE WILL BE FNS OFFICIALS ON ISLAND THIS WEEK TO HELP WITH THE PROGRAM.
